Experience Inlandsbanan and the Swedish mountains with your family!

We’re delighted to present a new package tour designed for the whole family. A fun-filled adventure for families who want to experience the charm of Sweden’s inland combined with quality time in the Swedish mountains.

The journey begins in Mora, where you’ll board Inlandsbanan’s charming train heading north to Östersund. Along the way, keep your eyes open – chances are good you’ll spot both moose and reindeer.

On board, you’ll meet our friendly train hosts, who are there to guide you through the landscapes and places you pass. The coffee break in Fågelsjö and dinner stop in Åsarna are not only delicious but also perfect opportunities for the youngest travelers to stretch their legs.

In Östersund, beautifully located on the shores of Lake Storsjön, you’ll have a full day to explore this vibrant summer city. A visit to Jamtli History Land – an exciting journey through time and space – is included in the trip.

From Östersund the train continues to Storulvån Mountain Station, where a family-friendly mountain adventure awaits in a truly unforgettable setting. You’ll have two full days in the mountains before the train takes you back to Östersund and finally returns to Mora.
Back in Mora, plenty of family adventures await – we recommend a visit to Tomteland, the magical home of Santa Claus, before heading home!

Our qualified train hosts

You will be accompanied by our committed train guides on your journey on the Inlandsbanan trains. They will help you find your way around, take your food and coffee orders and also deal with any practical requests as far as possible. The train hosts are knowledgeable and can tell you about places, sights and the scenery along the railway. They do not accompany you on other trains/buses in this trip, or to your accommodations or on excursions, but they are always available on board the Inlandsbanan trains.

Please note that this is not a group tour with a dedicated guide. You travel independently, but together with other passengers who have booked the same or another trip.

There are many ways to get to Mora collectively - by train, bus, boat, or plane. You have free arrival time in Mora as your package trip begins with an overnight stay at Mora Hotell & Spa.

In Mora, there are two train stations:
+ Mora Station (the main train station/travel center, about a 15-minute walk to central Mora).
+ Morastrand (in central Mora, not all trains go here, check the details for your specific train).
Inlandsbanans' trains stop at Mora Station.

We would be happy to help you book your connecting trains. If you prefer to book your connecting trains on your own, we recommend using SJ' website.

If you are traveling to Mora by car, we recommend the long-term parking at Mora Station (travel center). More information about parking in Mora can be found here under the heading "Parking solution for traveling with the inland railway."

You will arrive at Mora Station on the last day of your journey around lunchtime. If you want to stay and explore Mora, we can help you add a hotel night here.

During the journey along Inlandsbanan, the train will make stops for meal and coffee breaks. You can also purchase coffee, drinks, snacks and souvenirs on board.

You’ll have plenty of time to place your meal order while on the train, so when you arrive at the meal stop, your food will be ready and waiting. The dishes are freshly prepared on site, and many restaurants along the route take pride in genuine culinary craftsmanship, using locally produced ingredients. It’s a perfect opportunity to discover new flavors and explore the specialties of Sweden’s inland regions.

You usually pay for your meal directly to the restaurant. Unless otherwise communicated by the train host, you decide where you’d like to enjoy your meal – in the restaurant, on board the train, or out in nature. The timetable shows where, when, and for how long we stop.

From our onboard menu, you can purchase coffee, snacks and souvenirs throughout the journey.

Please note that the information regarding meal and coffee breaks, as well as onboard café service, applies to Inlandsbanan trains, Mora-Gällivare-Mora.

  • Day 1: Mora-Östersund

There are plenty of wild animals in this area, especially moose and bears; if luck is on your side, you might catch a glimpse of them. Feel free to bring binoculars.
