Maybe you long for a boat adventure with M/S Thomée and look for the big sea monster, or enjoy an ice cream in one of the citys' cafes. If you want to have a swim, we recommend going down to Surfbukten at Storsjön, here you can swim from bathing piers or jump from diving towers. In case of bad weather, take the opportunity to visit Multi Challenge, which offers everything from Boda-Borg challenges to go-karting and bowling. For more inspiration: Visit Östersund.
Today, the journey begins early. The morning train departs from Östersund C to Duved, passing through Åre along the way, offering a glimpse of the mountain Åreskutan before arriving in Duved. Upon arrival your transfer awaits, and you continue by bus to Storulvån, and the end of the road. Here, you stay at STF's mountain station Storulvån, situated in the midst of the mountain wilderness. Breathe in the mountain air and enjoy what nature has to offer.
Familiarize yourself with the facility, go for a hike – there are easy and more challenging trails for those with experience.
If you fancy a swim, we recommend a dip in Stor-Ulvån right outside the mountain station. Sauna facilities are available for those who get a bit chilly (remember to bring swimwear). If you need to buy provisions or rent equipment, there is a shop at the mountain station. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served daily for an additional fee.
After a good mountain breakfast, you have the entire day to explore Storulvån and its surroundings. Do you want to be creative and paint outdoors? Bring sketch pads and colors. The mountains provide inspiration! Enjoying a mountain picnic with packed lunch can't get any better or more beautiful in this mountain environment. From Storulvån, you can hike with your family on shorter or longer trails. If you wish for a guided tour, it can be pre-booked at the mountain facility. There is much to experience for both young and old in nature, and the summer and midnight sun speak for themselves. Here, you create memories for a lifetime. Climb Sweden's highest indoor climbing wall made of natural stone, or join in on a board game. Of course, self-catering facilities are available at the mountain lodge for those who prefer.
Last day at Storulvån before the journey continues towards Östersund. After a hearty mountain breakfast, you have a second full day to create your own adventures. Hiking, climbing, or even a refreshing swim – the choice is yours! If you'd like a guided tour, it's easy to book in advance. Mountain adventures are unique for everyone, and there's something here for the whole family to enjoy. In the afternoon or evening, it's time to bid farewell to the mountains as you take the transfer to Duved, where you’ll catch the train to Östersund for the final overnight stay of your trip.
After an early breakfast, you leave Östersund and set off on the final leg of your journey south along Inlandsbanan to Mora. Keep an eye out through the train window – you might spot the mysterious Storsjö Monster, said to live in Lake Storsjön! Along the way, the train stops in Fågelsjö, where you can enjoy their delicious cinnamon buns if you missed them on the way up – they’re very popular! Around lunchtime, you’ll arrive in Mora, where your adventure along Inlandsbanan comes to an end.
