SEE AND EXPERIENCE

In Storuman, there is much to see and experience, whether you stay for the day or longer. Here, two European highways and the Inland Line, which arrived in 1923, intersect. Our location is beautifully nestled among forests and many small and large lakes. You can see the mountains from our fantastic viewpoint, and if you want to experience them up close, they are within an hour's reach. Here, you step off the train right in the town center, with easy access to activities, restaurants, and nature right around the corner, all within walking distance to hotels and camping. HIKING

A walk in the vicinity of Storuman gives you the opportunity to discover sites from the inception of the Inland Line, such as the railway station and other historical buildings. Near the station is a beautiful former railway hotel, now the town's K-listed library, with its beautifully preserved period interior. At the bathing lake, about 500 meters from the railway station next to Storuman's Camping, there are activities for everyone. A walk around the lake (approximately 1.2 km) to try disc golf is an activity for both children and adults, along with tennis, boule, beach volleyball, mini golf, swimming, and playing, among others.

For a longer walk, follow the beautiful shoreline of Lake Storuman towards our own little archipelago - Luspholmarna. Hiking in Storuman allows you to enjoy the forest and nature with excellent trails and paths near the center. You can venture into the woods and wilderness on shorter half-day hikes and also somewhat longer day trips.

FISHING

The fishing is fantastic. In Storuman municipality, there are more than 2,400 lakes. The Ume River, which flows centrally past near Storuman, offers many opportunities for fishing and outdoor life. There are also other lakes and forest tarns near the town of Storuman where you can head out on your own or hire a professional guide to make fishing big, close, and accessible.

The feeling of the rod in your hand with the hook in the water, waiting for a bite from the trout or the fine perch, is both exciting and peaceful. Some of the waterways can be found within 500 meters from the centrally located railway station in Storuman.

CYCLING

Both in the central parts of Storuman and the surrounding areas, as well as around Hemavan Tärnaby, there are great opportunities for cross-country cycling. Rent a bike locally and explore the mountains and forests on your own, or bring your own bike and explore the area’s beautiful nature.

Challenge yourself and pedal up Utsiktsbacken, where Björn Ferry used to push himself on roller skis, then finish the tour at the lookout tower where you can see over Lake Storuman – a decent challenge for those looking to push themselves a bit. There are also nice destinations for those who prefer more leisurely bike rides, such as the local heritage museum towards Luspholmarna or Stensele Church, Sweden's largest wooden church.

EXPERIENCE THE MOUNTAINS

Take the bus from Storuman to Hemavan Tärnaby for a visit to our mountains. The bus ride itself is an experience as you travel through several of the municipality’s small villages and see how the landscape changes from forest to mountains. Here, there are endless hiking possibilities, from shorter day hikes to multi-day hiking experiences along the Kungsleden trail, which has its southern starting point in Hemavan.

There is also the option to easily and conveniently get up the mountain with the Hemavan Gondola. Sit down for a while and enjoy the tranquility, the views over the water, and the mountains. Take in the scents and the light. Give yourself time to enjoy – for a short while or a long time. In the area, you will find various types of accommodations, restaurants, fine fishing waters, a Sami center, and shops with local crafts.
