Experience a sparkling and icy winter festival in the Arctic climate in the heart of Swedish Lapland
- Welcome to Inlandsbanan and Jokkmokk Winter Market 2025
Sit back and enjoy a train journey through the Arctic snowy landscapes and dense, deep forests of northern Sweden. Our charming train car Y1 from the 70's is taking you up north to Jokkmokk and the Jokkmokk Market. The market has been an unbroken tradition for 400 years(!) Here, you will have time to immerse yourself in the Sami culture, history, and craftsmanship up close, in its authentic environment.
The journey start in the winter city Östersund, where the Storsjö region is at your disposal to explore on your own. Here, you also get to try the local food traditions and enjoy one of the city's SPA hotels before continuing north to Kåbdalis the next day. Kåbdalis is the place where Inlandsbanan was inaugurated in 1937, and here a cozy stay in mountain cabin-apartments await.
For two full days, you get to experience the famous winter market in Jokkmokk with its rich history, Sami culture, crafts, and culinary delights in a sparkling winter environment. It is a place for exciting encounters where you are allowed to create your own memories and explore whatever appeals to you the most.
Accommodation in Östersund: Mid-range hotel, double room with shower/WC. Breakfast and spa on the arrival day (pre-booking required). Dinner (excl. drinks).
Train ride Östersund-Kåbdalis. Lunch and dinner (excl. drinks). Accommodation at Blåfjellsstugby (6-bed cabin, 3 bedrooms, sauna). Breakfast, bed linen, and final cleaning. Luggage transfer back and forth to the cabins.
Train ride Kåbdalis-Jokkmokk (round trip). Entrance to Ájtte Museum. Lunch and dinner (excl. drinks).
Train ride Kåbdalis-Östersund. Lunch and dinner (excl. drinks). Accommodation at a mid-range hotel in Östersund, breakfast on final day.
A tour guide accompanies the entire trip.
Observe that a minimum number of travelers is required. The train is replaced by a bus if temperatures drop below -28°C.

Day 1: Arrival Day in Östersund
Welcome to the winter city of Östersund!
Amid snow-covered landscapes and sparkling winter skies, our journey through the Jämtland winter wonderland begins.
Before we board the train heading north, you'll have time to explore the Storsjö region and its surroundings on your own.In the afternoon, a relaxing moment awaits at the hotel’s spa, where you can enjoy the warmth and the view over the snow-covered city.
The evening concludes with a well-composed dinner at one of the city’s restaurants.
After dinner, we check into our rooms and get ready for a good night’s rest.Day 2: Östersund-Kåbdalis
We start the day with a hotel breakfast. Then we take a short walk to Östersund Central Station to board the train heading north.
After a few hours, we stop in Vilhelmina for a meal at the award-winning Bergmans Fisk & Vilt before continuing our journey. We enjoy the scenic views—and if we're lucky, we might spot wildlife such as moose or foxes. A leg-stretching stop awaits us at the Inlandsbanan Museum in Sorsele.
Around dinnertime, we arrive in Arvidsjaur. Here, we enjoy a delicious meal at Restaurang Stationsgatan 14 before continuing the final leg of our journey to Kåbdalis. Upon arrival, we check in to our cozy cabin apartments. After a smooth transfer to our accommodations, we can relax, enjoy a sauna, and prepare for tomorrow’s winter adventure in Jokkmokk.
Day 3: Full day - Jokkmokks Market
We start the day with breakfast at the cozy Blåfjell cabin resort, then head to the magical Jokkmokk Winter Market for a full day of local traditions, unique crafts, and cultural experiences.
Our morning begins at Ájtte Mountain and Sámi Museum, where immersive exhibits tell the story of Sámi life and the Nordic wilderness. After exploring the museum, we enjoy lunch together.
In the afternoon, we join a guided tour of Jokkmokks Tenn, discovering the art of Sámi pewter craftsmanship.
The day in Jokkmokk ends with a festive supper at Hotel Åkerlund’s restaurant Gästis, before we board the evening train back to Kåbdalis for a good night’s rest.
Day 4: Full day Jokkmokks Market
On the final day of the trip, we begin with breakfast at the Blåfjell cabin resort before heading to Jokkmokk to experience the market. Today, there is plenty of time to explore the market’s various activities on your own—see the market program for the full schedule! A Sami-themed lunch is included during the day.
For those who wish, we offer a guided tour of Jokkmokk’s old and new churches, as well as a visit to watch the thrilling reindeer race on Talvatissjön.
As the day draws to a close, we say goodbye to Jokkmokk and return to Kåbdalis, where a festive dinner awaits— a perfect ending to the day’s experiences.
Day 5: Kåbdalis-Östersund
Time to head home. After breakfast, we pack up and make our way to the train that will take us back to Östersund. Along the way, we make an interesting stop at the Rallarmuseum in Moskosel. We also pause for lunch and end the day with a dinner cooked over an open fire. In the evening, we arrive at Östersund Västra and check in at the Clarion Hotel for our final night.
Day 6: Last day in Östersund
After breakfast, we gather our belongings and check out. This is where our journey ends. Thank you for this time, and welcome back! We are happy to help you book your connecting trains home.
