If you start your journey in Kristinehamn, the Tågab train departs in the morning towards Mora. It's a 250 meter walk from Park Hotell to the train station in Kristinehamn see map.
If you’ve chosen a trip starting in Mora, you’ll travel here on your own. You can arrive at any time, as the journey begins with an overnight stay at a hotel. Take the opportunity to go for a walk along the beautiful Lake Siljan, and don’t miss the popular "Glassbåten" (Ice Cream Boat) by the harbor. Because of its delightful location on the shore of Lake Siljan and its rich cultural heritage there is much to see and do in Mora. We suggest a visit to the Zorn museum (entry included). It's a 350 meter walk there from Mora Hotell & Spa. See map. We also recommend taking a stroll in the pittoresque town centre. After lunch, you board the Inlandsbanan train at MoraStation. See map. The journey north toward Jämtland brings you close to the wilderness, as we travel through the inland's bear-populated forests. The train makes a coffee stop in Fågelsjö and a dinner stop in Åsarna. In the evening we arrive in Östersund, the residential town of the county of Jämtland. It's a 600 meter walk from Östersund C to Hotell Östersund. See map.
Östersund is a true summer city with a great deal to offer. For inspiration: Visit Östersund. We recommend a visit to Jamtli History Land and museum where you get to travel back in time, entry is included. It's a 1,3 km walk there from the hotel. See map. Or perhaps you want to discover the city on your own? Bikes can be hired from the tourist information office, where you can also pick up a map of cycling routes. Dinner is best enjoyed at one of the city’s many outdoor restaurant areas.
In the morning, the train heads north through Jämtland and Västerbotten into Sweden's largest province, Lapland. In Vilhelmina, the train has a lunch stop at award-winning Bergmans Fisk & Vilt. In Sorsele, we make a short stop to visit the Inlandsbanan Museum, where we get an insight into how the railway was built over a hundred years ago. In the afternoon, you arrive in Arvidsjaur. It's a 1 km walk from the station to Hotell Laponia. See map. Take the opportunity to visit the Sami village Lappstaden and stroll through the small town centre. The morning is free for your own activities; we highly recommend a walk to the heritage center, where you can book a guided tour or enjoy a coffee in a lovely setting. In the afternoon, you board the Inlandsbanan train heading north. Be sure to bring food on board or pre-order a meal delivery to the train. The journey’s first stop is at the Navvy Museum in Moskosel, followed by a photo stop at the Pite River Bridge. Just before Jokkmokk, you’ll cross the Arctic Circle, where the train makes a stop. Afterward, you travel through the Laponia World Heritage Site before reaching the Inlandsbanan’s and today’s final stop, Gällivare. You arrive in Gällivare in the evening. Upon arrival we recommend a walk in the light summer evening. In beginning of summer until mid july the sun never sets. Grand Hotel Lapland is located right by the train station.
Inlandsbanans most northern destination Gällivare, located above the Arctic circle, offers a wide variety of sights and activities. Take the bus to Stora Sjöfallet, visit the mountain Dundret or have a stroll along the river. The Tourist Information Center, located in Norrskensgallerian in Gällivare, you can get tips and ideas for an exciting day in Gällivare. In the morning, we travel south along Inlandsbanan to Vilhelmina, which was formerly called Volgsjö, as it is beautifully situated by the lake. The town later changed its name to Vilhelmina after Queen Fredrika Dorotea Vilhelmina, who was married to King Gustav IV Adolf in 1804. The train has a lunch stop in Arvidsjaur and a dinner stop at Vilhelmina Norra, the station before your final destination today. You arrive in Vilhelmina in the early evening. It's a 750-meter walk uphill to hotell Wilhelmina. See map.
Since the train doesn’t depart until early evening, you have plenty of time to spend in Vilhelmina. We recommend visiting the heritage museum, the church, and the old church town Kyrkstaden. The journey back to Östersund includes passing through Strömsund Municipality. The natural landscape here inspired Beppe Wolgers for the film about Dunderklumpen. You will arrive in Östersund in the evening.
After an early breakfast, the journey ends with the final leg south along Inlandsbanan to Mora or Kristinehamn. The train stops for coffee in Fågelsjö; if you missed tasting their famous buns on the way up, we recommend taking the opportunity to try them now. You will arrive in Mora around lunchtime and in Kristinehamn in the afternoon. If you are traveling to Kristinehamn, we highly recommend a visit to the Picasso statue in the picture; you can get there by bike or bus.
